Arafatka, also known as kefija, is a traditional Arabic headgear - a square piece of material, usually cotton, folded and wrapped around the head in various ways. She became the "trademark" of Arafat Jaser, which was difficult to see, let alone photograph without this characteristic headscarf. He wore kefiya in a traditional way, but also tied another around his neck.

For many different reasons, American and British soldiers during the war with Iraq and its subsequent occupation were often photographed and filmed with kefyi on their necks. Most often they were khaki and with a black pattern. The reason for this could have been attempts to reconcile Arab inhabitants as well as practical considerations. The most common are images of soldiers wearing kefei folded in a triangle and tied around the neck. In this way, the scarf can cover the nose and mouth, which in combination with goggles or glasses provides excellent protection against desert sand, kefija on the neck was also to prevent chafing from the bulletproof vest's collar.
